Some info on where we are going.

Tupira Surf Club is located in a pristine bay north of Madang, Papua New Guinea. Friendly locals will shower you with fantastic hospitality. Ulingan Bay is approximately 180 kilometres north of Madang Town and approximately 3 hours scenic drive from Madang Airport along the beautiful north coast of Madang. Under the vision and guidance of the SAPNG Patron Justice Nicholas Kirriwom and the President of the Surf Association PNG Mr Andrew Abel, Tupira Surf Club was established in 2008. Tupira has rapidly transformed from an idea into a living breathing entity. Tupira can proudly claim to be Madang Province’s first and only surf club in existence and now officially affiliated with SAPNG.

At Tupira, you will have access to up to five uncrowded breaks and Ulingan Bay is one of the most consistent swell magnets in Papua New Guinea. Surf straight out front… great culture… awesome food.  Tupira is perfect for your surfing holiday this summer.

The surf management plan in the Ulingan Bay area is capped at 20 surfers with a maximum of 12 surfers who can stay at Tupira Surf Club. With half a dozen accessible breaks within short travel by boat or car, crowding is not an issue. Enjoy surfing this new frontier with a select few. The breaks are user-friendly in this region with limestone bottoms.

Tupira – The Surf:
This region is still a relatively new frontier with new breaks being discovered every season. Tupira Surf Club manager, Nicki Wynnychuk is a mad keen explorer and can sniff out a wave in any nook and cranny. The contour of this coast means it hosts and abundance of set up’s from the classic Tupira point to hollow intense slabs. The first north swells start to roll in around early October and consistently occur until April. During a 1 week stay at Tupira you will surf your brains out and get a good variety of waves. Having the right directly out front is a major bonus and means you are constantly excited about surfing during your holiday.

A brief description of some of the known breaks in the region as follows.

Tupira right: This super fun wave is directly out front of the camp and is the most consistent wave in the region due to it being a north swell magnet. There is rarely an unrideable day over the October to April period. You can cruise on this wave on your longboard or push your limit and take off deep and get barrelled directly off the take off.

Tavulte : Leg burningly loooooong left within 10 mins from Tupira.

Medebur: A fun right hander within 10 mins from Tupira and often a crowd of locals will gather to cheer you on.

Mereman, Sakula left: A great little slab that offers some exciting barrels

Mereman right: Handles 3ft plus but better with a more northerly swell and good for longboards

Simbini left: Compared to a mini Padang Padang with plenty of barrels on offer.

Patakai: right hander but better on big swell

Suaru: incredible location with a fast right on the north side of the village and a classic outer reef left. (see shot of left with volcano in background)
